Flatbed trucking is more than just transportation—it’s a dynamic, hands-on service that plays a critical role in industries like construction, manufacturing, and logistics. At TC Legacy Logistics, every day on the road is different. Our flatbed drivers handle real freight, face real challenges, and deliver real results.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what a typical day looks like with one of our flatbed trucks in action.
6:00 AM – Pre-Trip Inspection & Route Planning
The day starts early. Before the engine turns over, our driver completes a comprehensive pre-trip inspection—checking brakes, tires, lights, load securement tools, and paperwork. Safety and compliance are non-negotiable.
Then it’s time to review the day’s route. Today’s job? Picking up steel beams from a fabrication yard and delivering them 180 miles away to a commercial construction site. Timing matters, and so does accuracy.
7:30 AM – Arrival at Pickup Site
After a smooth drive to the shipper, our driver checks in and reviews the bill of lading with the site manager. The steel beams are already staged and ready for loading. A forklift begins the job while our driver assists by guiding placement and planning the securement strategy.
Flatbed work isn’t passive—our team is involved in every step.
8:30 AM – Load Securement
Once loaded, it’s time to secure the cargo. Using Grade 70 chains, heavy-duty straps, and edge protectors, our driver locks everything down tight. Each strap is tensioned properly, and the load is balanced to meet DOT regulations.
A final walkaround ensures:
-
No sharp edges
-
Proper weight distribution
-
Full tarp coverage (since rain is in the forecast)
This is where our skill and attention to detail shine.
10:00 AM – On the Road
With the load secured and paperwork signed, it’s time to hit the highway. Real-time GPS tracking kicks in so our dispatch and client can monitor the load’s location and ETA. Along the way, our driver makes scheduled securement checks—especially after the first 50 miles, a critical safety point in flatbed hauling.
1:00 PM – Arrival at Job Site & Delivery
The construction site is expecting the delivery by 1:00 PM—and we’re on time. Our driver communicates with the site lead and positions the truck for unloading. A crane is on-site and ready to lift the steel beams off the flatbed, while our driver removes straps and chains and assists in guiding the process.
After unloading, the truck is cleared, and the recipient signs the delivery confirmation. Another job complete—on time, safely, and with professional care.
2:30 PM – Post-Delivery Wrap-Up
Before heading back, our driver performs a post-delivery inspection and stores all equipment neatly. Notes from the job are logged, and our office updates the client. Everything from pickup to drop-off is documented for accountability and customer satisfaction.
Every Load Has a Story—Let Us Be Part of Yours
At TC Legacy Logistics, this is just one of many jobs we do every week. Whether it’s steel, machinery, lumber, or specialty equipment, our flatbed team handles it with professionalism, safety, and pride.
