At TC Legacy Logistics, our drivers are more than just operators—they’re the heartbeat of our business. Each day, they hit the road with dedication, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility. Whether they’re hauling power only loads or securing flatbed freight, their work keeps America’s supply chain moving.

Ever wonder what it’s really like behind the wheel? Here’s a look inside a typical day in the life of a TC Legacy flatbed and power only driver.

5:00 AM – Rise and Ready

The day starts early. Our drivers know that being prepared is half the job. After a quick breakfast and a check of the weather and road conditions, it's time for a pre-trip inspection. This includes:

  • Checking tire pressure and brakes

  • Verifying lights and signals

  • Inspecting securement tools (chains, straps, tarps)

  • Reviewing dispatch notes and delivery schedule

Safety is priority one—no shortcuts here.

6:00 AM – Hooking Up and Hitting the Highway

For power only drivers, the morning starts by heading to a shipper’s yard to hook up to a preloaded trailer. These are often drop-and-hook loads, which means the driver can quickly connect and go—no waiting around for live loading.

For flatbed drivers, the process takes a little more hands-on attention. That means:

  • Carefully positioning the truck

  • Verifying the load is balanced

  • Strapping, chaining, and tarping (depending on freight type)

  • Double-checking DOT securement requirements

Once everything’s tight and secure, it’s time to roll.

9:00 AM – Smooth Cruising & Smart Routing

On the road, every mile counts. Our drivers use GPS-enabled route planning to avoid traffic, construction zones, and delays. With power only loads, they enjoy a quicker start; with flatbeds, they may face challenges like high winds, steep grades, or special permit zones—especially with oversized or heavy hauls.

TC Legacy drivers stay sharp. They monitor:

  • Fuel efficiency

  • Drive time logs (ELDs)

  • Road and weather conditions

  • Communication with dispatch

Our support team is always a call or message away if help is needed.

12:30 PM – Refuel and Recharge

Around midday, it’s time for a break. Our drivers plan fuel stops at safe, reliable truck stops where they can:

  • Refuel the rig

  • Take a 30-minute DOT-required break

  • Check their load for any strap movement or shifting

  • Grab lunch and recharge for the next leg

Fuel management is crucial—especially with rising diesel prices. At TC Legacy, we guide our drivers on smart fueling practices that save money and reduce downtime.

2:00 PM – Delivery or Layover

Depending on the load, the afternoon may bring a delivery appointment or a layover:

  • For Power Only: Drop the trailer, scan delivery paperwork, and check in with dispatch for the next load—fast turnaround.

  • For Flatbed: Assist with unloading (if needed), remove tarps, and unchain the freight safely. Then, it’s back to planning the next pickup or resting until morning.

Some days include multiple short hauls, while others involve long stretches of highway with one major destination.

6:00 PM – Rest, Reset, and Regroup

By evening, most drivers are wrapping up their hours of service. Time to:

  • Park safely at a terminal, truck stop, or designated area

  • Eat, shower, and unwind

  • Log hours and plan the next day’s trip

  • Call home or relax in the sleeper

The road is tough—but at TC Legacy, we support a balance of hard work and real rest. We don’t just push miles; we invest in our people.
